UNLEASH 2017: Legal Disclaimer

This legal disclaimer covers the rights and obligations of any participant of UNLEASH 2017 (hereinafter referred to as “the participant”) in relation to application to and participation in UNLEASH 2017 as well as usage of the domain www.unleash.org and any sub-domains (hereinafter referred to as “the platform”).

Acceptance of these terms and conditions are a prerequisite for participating in UNLEASH 2017.

I. Data privacy, including the participant's consent to processing of personal data

By accepting the terms and conditions, the participant allows UNLEASH to collect, use, and store personal data with the purpose of 1) enabling the creation of a global community of SDG talents, 2) linking participants to peers and new channels of support from e.g. investors, organisations and corporates, and 3) communicate with talents before, during and after UNLEASH-events. The UNLEASH Association (UNLEASH Association, H.C. Andersens Boulevard 35, 1553 København V, Denmark; hereinafter referred to as “UNLEASH”) reserves the right to store such data for up to five years.

The participant accepts that trusted third parties can access this data. Third party recipients include committed partners to UNLEASH, who appear on the platform. The consent provided by the participant covers any third party that will be added to the list in the future. The participant can access an updated list of third parties at any time through this link. The allowance of third parties to utilise the participant’s data for the stated objectives means that data may be transferred to third countries, including countries outside of the European Economic Area, where the level of data protection may differ from the applicable rules within the European Economic Area.

Personal information, which UNLEASH may be collecting from participants, includes the participant’s full legal name, postal address, telephone number, email address, IP address, institution, and how the participant has learned of UNLEASH. For registration, the participant’s full name and email-address are required and will be collected. When applying to UNLEASH, all questions in the application form noted with a star are obligatory to fill in. Failure to reply to these questions may exclude applicants to participate in UNLEASH 2017.

With this disclaimer, the participant accepts to be photographed during UNLEASH 2017 and that photographs may be used for promotional materials for future UNLEASH-related events and activities.

The participant explicitly confirms that his/her personal data is held by UNLEASH and its service provider hosting the platform. As the security of the participant’s personal information is of high importance for UNLEASH, technical and organisational processes to protect such personal data against unauthorised handling have been implemented. Nevertheless, UNLEASH does not guarantee that the participant’s submitted data are secure on the internet and cannot exclude that the participant’s personal data are unlawfully spied out or damaged by an unauthorised third party.

The participant may access, rectify, and erase his/her own data at any time. Further, the participant may object to processing in UNLEASH 2017 and withdraw his/her consent at any time. In case the participant wishes his/her personal data to be modified or deleted or would want to obtain information about the type of his/her personal data stored by UNLEASH, or in case the participant has any questions related to data protection, please contact contact@unleash.org.

II Use of cookies

The UNLEASH platform uses cookies. As the participant is required to create an account at the platform, please read and acknowledge the following information.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are downloaded to the user’s computer to improve user experience and enable the site to work as intended. This section describes what information is gathered through cookies, how UNLEASH uses this information, and why storage of information gathered through cookies is sometimes needed.

How the UNLEASH platform uses cookies

UNLEASH uses cookies at its platform for statistical purposes (including measurement of frequency of page visits, browser used, device used, operating system used, time and date of page views) and to optimise user experience. In most cases, there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to the site. It is recommended that users leave on all cookies if unsure of their function in case the cookies are used to provide a service that is being used. However, all cookies can be set to be cleared by default from the user’s drive upon exiting the browser. Find information about this in the browser help.

Disabling cookies



Users can prevent the setting of cookies by adjusting the browser settings (see browser help on how to do so). Be aware that disabling cookies will affect the functionality of the UNLEASH platform along with many other websites. Disabling cookies will usually result in also disabling certain functionality and features of the site. Therefore, it is recommended that the user does not disable cookies. UNLEASH cannot guarantee the functionality of the page when cookies are disabled.

The cookies set by UNLEASH

If the participant creates an account at the platform, UNLEASH will set cookies for the management of the signup process and general administration. These cookies will usually be deleted upon logout, however, in some cases they may remain afterwards to remember the user’s site preferences when logged out.
UNLEASH uses cookies when a user is logged in. This prevents the user from having to log in every single time a new page is visited. These cookies are typically removed or cleared when the user logs out to ensure that only registered users can access restricted features and areas when logged in. When the participant submits data through a form such as those found on contact pages or comment forms, cookies may be set to remember user details for future correspondence.
To remember user preferences, UNLEASH needs to set cookies so that this information can be called whenever the user interacts with a page affected by individual settings and preferences.


Third party cookies

The platform uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (hereinafter referred to as “Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies to help the website analyse how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about the user’s practices at the platform (including the user’s IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information to evaluate use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate the user’s IP address with any other data held by Google. By using the platform, the participant consents to the processing of data about him/her by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above. It is possible to opt out of the use of Google analytics, in which case the cookie file placed will not gather data, by downloading and installing a Google provided browser plugin which can be found via this link.

UNLEASH may also use social media buttons and/or plugins on this site that allow users to connect with their social networks in various ways. For these to work, the following social media sites, including Facebook and Google, will set cookies through the platform, which may be used to enhance the user’s profile on their site or contribute to the data they hold for various purposes outlined in their respective privacy policies.

III. Communication

Communication on UNLEASH is provided in English only to ensure an efficient communication with and between participants in UNLEASH LAB 2017.

All content on the platform is of non-confidential nature and open to all points of view on intended business-related topics. However, UNLEASH reserves the right to remove any post or comment that includes derogatory, abusive, offensive, obscene, violent, inappropriate, or inaccurate content of any kind. The participant shall interact with other participants respectfully, as the participant would do in any professional setting. Hate speech, discriminatory remarks, intimidating behaviour or posts, or any abuse of the platform may constitute grounds for participant’s immediate removal from UNLEASH LAB 2017. All decisions pertaining to participants, teams, and/or ideas admitted or selected for any stage of UNLEASH LAB 2017, including the selection of winners, are final.

While all efforts are undertaken to prevent this, UNLEASH cannot fully rule out unplanned downtime of any online or offline service for or connected to UNLEASH 2017.

IV. Intellectual property rights

The participant ensures to the best of his/her knowledge that the submitted ideas, materials, and information are neither of confidential nature nor unlawfully obtained by the participant.

In exchange for use of the platform, and to the extent that the participant’s contributions through use of the platform give rise to any intellectual property right interest, hereunder copyright, patent rights, or design rights, the participant understands that contributing any intellectual property (IP) to UNLEASH is at his/her sole discretion, and if any IP is incorporated into solutions, then future ownership must be sorted out at the individual team level. However, UNLEASH does retain the right to use solutions containing IP for publicity including to display, publish, broadcast, or communicate to the public by any means.

V. Disclaimer

UNLEASH declines all liability for loss or damage of any kind that the participant or any third parties may incur in connection with access to or use of the platform, or from links to third parties' websites. Anyone visiting the platform, using the information contained therein or availing themselves of the offers featured therein does so at their own risk and responsibility.

UNLEASH also declines all liability for lost earnings, for internet-related malfunctions of all kinds (e.g. suspension of operations, disruption of functions, viruses, pernicious components, terrorist acts, etc.), for misuse by third parties (hacking into data, copying, etc.), and for loss of programs or other data in the participant’s information systems. This applies even if the platform does not indicate the possibility of such damage.

Linked websites

Links on the platform may lead to third parties' websites which are outside the control of UNLEASH. UNLEASH does not take responsibility for the correctness, completeness, or lawfulness of the content of these websites or of any links to further websites, nor for any offers, products, or services contained therein. Users access the linked websites at their own risk.

By ticking the box labelled "I have read and understood the Legal Disclaimer and hereby fully agree to it", the participant agrees to the present Legal Disclaimer.
